The area of the South Hams lies in the Southern-most part of Devon in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The coastline is stunning with beautiful beaches and wonderful walking. The countryside is rural, quiet and unspoilt.

The Coastal Path

 
Walk the Coastal Path close to us, Dartmoor and the Dart Valley. Let the kids and dogs run and play on our wonderful beaches, all different and a choice of 15 within 30 minutes' drive, most dog-friendly.

Sample our high-quality locally-produced food in the pubs, restaurants, farm shops, tea rooms and cafes. Explore history - castles, pirates, boats - and discover art and local craft in ancient towns like Dartmouth, Salcombe, Totnes and Kingsbridge, full of atmosphere and charm with hidden lanes and fascinating little shops, galleries, and markets. Or try the local butcher or the farm shop at Stokeley Farm...

Local Fishing Nets 		Our river, the Gara, feeds into Slapton Ley, a National Nature Reserve NNR, which has gentler walks including a level boardwalk.

Take the river ferries or the Dart valley steam train to explore National Trust houses & gardens, Sharpham Dairy and vineyard, or simply to use your car less.

Why not try lake or sea fishing; riding, at the local stables 10 minutes down the lane or on the Moor;or golf (3 courses close by).

 

 

Explore castles from Bronze Age hillforts, through motte & bailey to Gothic imitations; try tango in Totnes; or visit any of the local National Trust houses, gardens or beaches. And Dartington Hall for music and the arts.

Great Dog Walking!		  

We have two dog-friendly pubs with restaurants in Slapton, The Queens Arms, which also does takeaways, and The Tower Inn, or walk up the green lane over the fields to Strete to the Kings Arms or The Laughing Monk restaurant.
